Dental Hygiene

In today’s world, there are so many new products claiming to better your dental health but what tricks and tips are actually reliable. While new discoveries in the world of orthodontic technology continue to improve, it’s hard to find products and tricks that are effective and non-damaging. In this blog we will go into how to properly take care of your braces and tips to having a pristine smile.

Brushing Habits:

Brushing benefits: When you brush your teeth, it works to remove food, plaque, and residual bacteria off your teeth. Brushing your teeth not only works to clean your teeth but also prevents cavities while also freshening up your breath.

How often: It is recommended to brush your teeth at least twice a day. With braces employed, it would be best to brush after every big meal, because food can get stuck in the crevices leading to a buildup of plaque and potential cavities. Products recommended: An electric toothbrush is really helpful in terms of brushing more effectively.

Flossing Habits:  In terms of flossing, this should be done alongside brushing. The act of flossing is beneficial to dental health. It helps to remove particles of food and plaque that may potentially be stuck in between teeth. Flossing helps to prevent the formation of cavities and improves overall oral health. Brushing with braces may be a little more difficult so here are some tips. There are products that exist these days that act similar to a thread and needle. You simply weave the thick end of the thread under your wire and use it like a typical string floss. If this product is a little difficult to navigate, there are other products available. A soft pick is also a very common product used.

Eating Habits:

There’s a lot that factors into overall oral health. The importance of eating healthy  Foods and drinks high in sugar contribute to tooth decay. Bacteria in the mouth feed on sugar and produce acids that erode tooth enamel, leading to cavities. Consuming sugary snacks and beverages frequently throughout the day increases the risk of tooth decay. A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and dairy products provides essential nutrients for oral health, such as calcium, phosphorus, and vitamin C. These nutrients help strengthen tooth enamel, promote gum health, and support overall oral hygiene.

The key to having good dental health is simply to be consistent. If you have healthy habits of brushing and flossing regularly, eating healthy and maintaining regular dental checkups, your smile and health will improve.
